Corporate Income Tax (T2) Filing

Complete T2 preparation and CRA internet filing for Canadian corporations β€” operating companies, professional corporations, holding companies and inactive corporations β€” with every required federal and provincial schedule.

Who must file a T2

Every corporation resident in Canada β€” including inactive corporations, holding companies and non-profits that are incorporated β€” must file a T2 Corporation Income Tax Return for every taxation year, even when no tax is payable. Non-resident corporations must file where they carried on business in Canada or disposed of taxable Canadian property.

ObligationDeadline
T2 return6 months after the corporation's taxation year-end
Balance of tax2 months after year-end β€” extended to 3 months for many CCPCs that claimed the small business deduction and meet the taxable-income/taxable-capital conditions
InstalmentsMonthly, or quarterly for eligible small CCPCs with a clean compliance history

Filing mechanics

Nearly all corporations are subject to mandatory internet filing of the T2. We file through CRA-certified software under your signed T183CORP authorization and provide CRA's electronic confirmation for your minute book. Functional currency elections, short taxation years arising from incorporations, wind-ups, amalgamations and acquisitions of control are handled routinely.

Planning built into every return

  • Salary–dividend mix and remuneration planning before year-end, not after.
  • Small business deduction preservation β€” passive investment income grind and association rules.
  • CDA, GRIP and RDTOH balance tracking so tax-free capital dividends and refundable tax are never left behind.
  • Loss utilization β€” carrybacks on Schedule 4, and grouping strategies within a corporate family.
  • Shareholder loan and subsection 15(2) exposure review each year-end.
  • Instalment schedules and reminders synced to your fiscal calendar.
Late filing costs real money: the basic penalty is 5% of unpaid tax plus 1% per complete month (to 12 months), doubled for a repeated failure after a demand to file. Inactive companies that skip filing also risk losing loss carryforwards records and can face gross-negligence assessments when CRA reconstructs income.
